Drop your drawers

As you may know, I go all weak at the knees for repurposed vintage drawers. This version by Kara Paslay just sends me. I like the white enclosures for the drawers and the little bits of mirror and color mixed with the aged wood surfaces.

Kara was kind enough to provide a tutorial for Design Sponge. Make your own!

K Y Y O T E

Designer Amanda Loos takes seed beads and recycled silver and turns then into summery loveliness. I love the signature hexagonal clasp on the bracelet and the sharp right angles on those quill earrings.

This is not a Miss Print

If you're not already familiar with Betabrand, the design juggernaut behind Cordarounds and the Darpa Hoodie, you should be. Just get on their mailing list. Their promotional emails are part delusion, part viral marketing, all awesome.
Their latest Think Tank product is the Miss Print skirt, which is made up of cotton/spandex test prints from their screen printer's shop. Super cute. I hope they put them into production.

Fiber cement pendant lights

I stumbled across these fiber cement pendants by Ranier Mutsch. The eco-friendly fiber cement pieces are by Eternit, and usually used for roofing or siding. The rope is simple sailing cord. Nice!

Art of Board

So, I've seen some really nice skateboard jewelry, but this is pretty brilliant. Of course, this might be because I have a bare wall of cement board in my home, waiting for me to finally decide what surface is going there, and I've got all kinds of tile on the brain. I wish this were in our budget.

Art of Board recycles trashed and broken skateboard decks into lively wall tiles. The graphics make them pop, while the scrapes and scratches on the surface remind us of their first life. To fill their own supply chain, Art of Board created I Ride, I Recycle, which partners with skate shops to keep used decks out of landfill and put them into the hands of artists and designers looking for raw materials. The organization has a broader mission of encouraging skaters to minimize the environmental impact of their sport. We've profiled this kind of single-item supply chain before, and I'm always thrilled to see it working.

Bike racks to coordinate your Eames lounger

So, I finally took the dive into Pinterest and quickly got lost for an hour looking at some very lovely eye-candy. There are some challenges in using Pinterest, specifically around copyright*, and for me, it would be a lot more useful if they would allow private pinboards. That said, I fell down the rabbit hole of product design boards, and discovered California designer Daniel Ballou via a random pin from a French website.

How I got here doesn't really matter. The work is wonderful, and I love these bent plywood bike racks. The staging in these photos is perfect: Slat bench? Check! Eames lounge? Check! Bent wood awesomeness? Check!

Bike planters!

Oh, happy spring! This idea is pure whimsical genius, or genius whimsy--I can't decide which. Bungee a 3D-printed planter to your bike and ride like the wind!

Get yours from the Wearable Planter Etsy site. You can also find tiny planters for your personal adornment.
